Counselling

Specialising in maternal mental health

Hi, I'm Nicky, a fully qualified and BACP registered counsellor who is passionate about supporting mums. Are you feeling overwhelmed by the challenges of being a mum? It’s not uncommon to feel stressed, anxious or lonely, but you don’t have to go through it alone. I can help you to understand your feelings and regain control of your life, so you have the confidence to be the mum you want to be.

I provide counselling in person in St Albans, Hertfordshire (please see FAQs section for address), as well as online and on the phone.

About me

Experience

As a mum, I understand the unique challenges that mothers face, whether you're navigating pregnancy, adjusting to life with a newborn, or raising older children. Having experienced post-natal anxiety myself, I know how overwhelming it can feel when you're second-guessing everything during an already challenging time.

With over 10 years of experience in the mental health sector, I’ve supported mums through a range of issues, including anxiety, loss, and relationship and family concerns. This background helps me empathise with the challenges mums face at every stage of motherhood. Together, we can work on understanding your needs and finding ways for you to feel more equipped to face the journey of motherhood.

How we can work together

I offer integrative counselling, which means I will work with you as an individual and choose a therapeutic approach (or approaches) that will work for you and what you bring to counselling. It may be important to work with what has happened in your childhood or have goals to work on specific issues. Or it may be that you just need a space where someone listens to you who isn’t involved in your day-to-day life.
Building and maintaining a relationship with you is hugely important and I put you at the centre of that relationship. I believe that you have the ability to achieve what you want and need from therapy, and it is my role to support you in doing that.

How do I access online counselling sessions?

I will send you a Google Meet link in advance of our sessions. If you have any problems accessing it on the day you can give me a call.

Do you only see mums?

I have experience of, and am more than happy to, work with people from any walk of life. The most important thing is that you are comfortable with me as your counsellor.

What should I expect in my first session?

The first session is an opportunity for us to get to know each other. You can tell me about the areas of your life you're finding challenging and what you hope to achieve through counselling.

How long does each counselling session last?

Sessions are 50 minutes.

What are your fees?

I charge £50 per 50 minute session.

What is your cancellation policy?

I require 48 hours’ notice of cancellation of a session, otherwise the fee for the session will be charged. I may be able to offer an alternative appointment. If you arrive for the session late I will not be able to extend the length of the session due to other appointments, and you will be charged the full cost of the session.

Is counseling confidential?

Everything we discuss in our sessions will remain confidential, unless I have a concern that you are at risk or there is a risk to others.

How do I prepare for my counselling sessions?

It may be helpful to think about what you want to focus on during the session, but no formal preparation is needed. You can bring any questions or concerns you have.
